Knife Instructor 1 - Basic Package

This training video presents instructions from Jim Mahan’s interpretation of the Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) of Kali and Arnis. Teaching you integrated movement through Knife Fighting Counters, Disarms, and Techniques. You will learn Knife Forms, Offensive and Defensive Footwork, Knife Trapping Methods, Three different disarms systems, Bladed throws and takedowns, and various finishing techniques. The FMA is known for its blade skills and this course definitely gives training in the basics. You will learn full explanations of movement with drills like Abecedario, Sumbrada, and more.

Our Distance Training Program is for students and Instructors who cannot regularly attend seminars at our Academy to prepare for instructor courses and level exams: you can study the techniques, methods, concepts, and principles of the respective level and practice them with your sparring partner in your gym or home.

How to Complete the Course:

Option 1. If you have mastered all techniques and principles you can take the exam with a certified ACAF or affiliated instructor. After which you can present training, award promotional rank, and apprenticeships. 

Option 2. If you have mastered all techniques and principles, you can take the exam by completing a written exam and submitting a recorded video. If successful, you can present training to your students, but cannot award rank promotion or create instructors. In order to do so, you must take an in-person exam. The exam must be taken with an authorized ACAF instructor.

After successfully completing either option of the first instructor level you are officially certified to teach the ACAF Daga Sa Daga Knife Fighting program.

Content of the Training Course

• Basic Offensive Skill Training (Angles, cutting, slashing, stabbing)

• Basic Defensive Skill Training (Blocks, Interceptions, Disarms, Redirects)

• Tactics and Strategies for defense against knife attacks

• Training with various knives

• Defense against knife attacks

• Defense against sticks and blunt weapons (with a knife)

• Tactical use of the knife from different positions

• Basic Knife Grappling

Upon successful completion of the course and demonstrated application of the techniques and concepts within the training materials, the student will receive the Instructor Development Certificate.
